Maha & Vans: Women in Focus | Sylvana

Celebrating women, always. In the light of Women's History Month and tomorrow's International Women's Day, we joined forces with Vans to celebrate women today. By telling the story of three powerful, female creatives. Because women inspire each other. Women motivate each other. Women support each other, and women grow together. Scroll along and get familiar with the wonderful Sylvana.

After successfully following an education in all-round dance, Sylvana turned her passion into her job. Besides performing, she now also shares this passion with the next generation by teaching a variety of dancing disciplines to multiple groups of young students.

Sylvana Merién (25): Dancer
Her favourite OG Vans Silhouette is the OG Sk8-Hi Lx

Over the years, you have practised and performed in many different dancing styles. Which do you consider to be your favourite and why?
I don't have one favourite style. I feel at home in multiple ones, and it feels so amazing, beautiful and nice being able to combine these and move my body across the room in different ways. Expressing my feelings in many different ways.

We can imagine a dancing career to be tough yet very rewarding. What do you consider to have been your biggest challenge and your biggest success so far?
My biggest challenge has been accepting that not everything is possible within a span of 3 seconds. And that sometimes, making mistakes actually helps you grow. This is part of the process, and it's what makes the process even more beautiful and authentic because you know that you worked hard to reach your goals. My biggest success would be my overall growth throughout the years and every single memorable experience I took from it. Both small and bigger ones.

You are currently passing on your passion to the next generation. How important is it to you that females within the creative industry have someone to look up to, relate to, and learn from?
There are so many beautiful, powerful and inspiring women within this industry, whether well-known or not so well-known. To me, it's important because it's motivating to see women reach their goals, share their passion and watch them grow.
