- Winter - Missy Elliot ft. Aaliyah - Best Friends
Winter reminds me of warm, cosy, and mellow beats. Whilst sitting on the couch with my blanket and ginger/mint tea vibing, this Timbaland beat paired with an amazing woman like Missy Elliott reminds me of all the above. Aaliyah makes it smooth, so adding the R&B makes it the perfect combo for me. Their harmony together is magical, like winter is.
- Precious memory - Eagles - Love Will Keep Us Alive
The Eagles were my dad’s fav. Growing up in my Moluccan/Melanesian family is a straight-up blessing. I learned about soul, funk, disco, country, and rock music at an early age, and even now in 2022, it’s my core as a DJ. My dad passed away a few years ago, and this song makes me emotional. I heard him playing this on the guitar numerous times at home or with his friends and all my uncles when they were jamming. My dad is my biggest inspiration.
- Nostalgic - Justin Timberlake - Let Me Love You/My Love
So for this one, I chose a tune that I strongly remember as making a big impact on me. When I first heard “My Love”, I remember I felt super hyped, happy, and just energetically connected to the beat. I think that was the first actual time I fell in love with a beat. From that moment on, I explored (and am still exploring) all the music I connect with on an energy level.
- Heartbreak - Kanye West - Heartless
This one speaks for itself. When I dived into music at the age of 16/17, I discovered what Kanye already did for productions and his projects. He is a huge inspiration for many of us, and I can feel the sadness in this song called Heartless. I also admire the way Kanye puts these hard and sad feelings into lyrics. It’s is very raw. Music is, most of the time, an outlet for someone’s emotions. That makes music special.
- Lovesong - Find Someone Like You
I think I can’t explain this one in words. Tip: listen to the song. She perfectly explains love in itself. The small things about your person, finding your soulmate in life. And it’s so romantic. I really love that. Snoh has a wonderful way of putting her feelings into a song. I feel connected with her. I just came back from her concert in Bristol. I was mesmerized and tore up (a lil) when hearing this song at her performance.
- Party - Donae’o & Dj Supa D - She Belongs To The Night (Juls Remix)
So every time I hear this song, I instantly start to dance by myself no matter where I’m at!! Juls is one of my favourite producers ever. I can’t explain the feeling, but I just want to be with my friends at a party vibing to the music and see other people enjoy it as well :)
